ANGELA HYND

Angela was born in Glasgow and brought up in the small town of Rutherglen.  When she was a child, her grandfather worked in the local Paper Mill and her dad worked in the carpenter’s shop at Yarrows shipbuilders.  Between them they provided her with as much paper and pencils as she could have ever wished for … the stubby, used pencils which were no longer needed of course, ... which allowed her to enjoy spending her days drawing to her heart’s content.

After graduating in Illustration in 1999 from Glasgow College of Building and Printing, she went on to work for London publishers creating book illustrations and covers. In between Illustration commissions she began to paint in oils and fell in love with the medium, so in 2006 she made the decision to devote herself to oil painting full time.

Working in her home studio with her partner Scott Prentice, another artist who exhibits at the Seagull Gallery, they spend their days challenging each other in their art making processes, pinching each other’s crayons, and encouraging their mutual dedication to creativity.

Although Angela’s creative work can span various subject matter, her true passion lies within painting the natural world. She relishes the diversity of landscapes found across Scotland, from the misty drama of the mountains to the rugged structures of the coastlines, which offers her a wealth of trees and wildlife for inspiration, as much today as they did as a child, hunched over those rolls of paper with her treasured stubby pencils.
