CATHERINE LOWE
Catherine is a glass artist from a glass artists’ collective in the WASP Studios at Hanson Street, Glasgow. In 2012 she returned to college to study glass art. During that time, she won two prizes: one from the Incorporation of Wrights in 2013 for her stained glass panel of the People’s Palace in Glasgow and the second from the Scottish Glass Society in 2014, for the best final year student’s work.
The inspiration for Catherine’s art glass collection devolves from the time she lived in the Outer Hebrides when life was ruled by the dual forces of weather and sea. She strives to encapsulate the many moods of the sea and beach in fused glass.
She makes fused glass jewellery, coasters, platters, self-standing panels and LED light panels and each piece is handmade and kiln fired two or three times to obtain the delicate reactions that help depict the sea and the water’s edge. Catherine keeps refining her techniques to increase the variations in her work and stretch the techniques that she uses. Her work is sold in a number of galleries along the West Coast of Scotland.
Catherine is the current Chair of the Scottish Glass Society.
