Craig is a Scottish artist with a particular interest in both fine art photography and oil painting.

As a photographer, he studied the classical style of great landscape photographers such as Ansel Adams, who captured beautiful and inspiring images in black and white. Craig has two published books on landscape photography - ‘Greenock and the Firth of Clyde’ and ‘Elements, The Landscape of Scotland (Birlinn Press). ‘Elements’ was a best seller in Scotland reaching the top 10 selling book-list when published. Craig explored remote corners of Scotland’s landscape to capture images that convey the wild and rugged nature of our country; coastline, mountains, forests. He has exhibited his photographs internationally, with his work regularly featuring in journals, magazines and various product advertising campaigns.

As a painter, he follows the classical oil painting style similar to that used by the old masters, taking inspiration from artists such as Rembrandt and Caravaggio, then he applies this in a modern context. Whether painting landscapes, portraits or still life he follows the same formal and structured colour palette and painting style. Craig’s landscape paintings are largely influenced by his life in the West of Scotland, from tugboats on Greenock’s waterfront to standing stones on Arran. He is a largely self-taught oil painter, having devoted many years of study and research into traditional materials and techniques. Craig believes this journey of life-long learning and study keeps his interest in painting alive and fresh; always experimenting and pushing his craftsmanship and skills to new levels as he grows and evolves as an artist.
