JULIE ROBERTSON

Julie Robertson is an artist who lives in Glasgow and enjoys working with a variety of different media. As a child, the weekly Friday evening visit to the local library led her to browse through illustrated books entering the world of mythology and fairytales, leaving her with a lifelong passion for collecting vintage books and using images within them as inspiration for her work.

The surrealist paintings of Leonora Carrington and Remedy Varos, folkloric artefacts in museums, mythological tales and Scottish ballads all of which have influenced her work .
Whenever she travels, trips to the local museums and antique book markets spark off ideas which fill her sketch books and then appear in her ceramics, paintings and fine art relief prints.
Fascinated by ornate and richly patterned textiles, an interest in historical costume is also evident , stemming back to her early career after graduating from art school as a fashion illustrator.
