MAGGIE WILSON
Maggie is a Printed Textile Design graduate from GSA, completing a MA (Post Grad) in Design in 1981. She then went on to a career in Commercial Design, firstly as an Interior Designer with House of Fraser in the 80’s, then on to selling her Printed Textiles in the UK and the USA. She started in education by lecturing in Printed Textiles at the Scottish College of Textiles and then progressing on a long career in secondary education culminating in being the Faculty Head of Art and Technology at Gryffe High School. Now retired from teaching, she has time to produce her own work and regularly shows with both the PAI and RGI.
Her artwork covers a range of subject matter, encompassing portraiture, figure compositions, landscape and botanical/stylised flowers.
She works in a variety of media; including watercolour, procian dyes, gouache and photography. This allows her to interpret colour, with a sensitive layering process, which creates a varied opacity. Colour and pattern play an important part in her work, plus the use of an organic line and asymmetrical compositions produce her contemporary style.
These examples show her diversity of subject matter and scale, including works of her three children and the many Scottish landscapes she has visited over the years.
