Ed was born in Glasgow and studied drawing and painting at evening class at Glasgow School of Art under Charlie Boyle, and life drawing at Strathclyde University under Bob Brown. Since turning professional in 1993, he has exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Glasgow Institute and galleries in the UK, USA, Germany, France and Russia.

Ed has drawn and painted for as long as he can remember. He spends much of his spare time out walking either in the hills or along the shore. The attraction for Ed is the natural drama of changing weather conditions and their influence on the light and landscape.
