PAUL MURRAY
Paul graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1984 and has been painting, teaching and travelling ever since.
He was elected as an artist member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour in 2011 and as a Diplomate of the Paisley Art Institute in 2012. He has had several one-man shows and exhibited in group shows throughout the country, receiving numerous awards and prizes.
Paul has exhibited in Marbella in Spain and in the Bahrain Fine Art Society: he is represented in the collection of the Bahrain Royal Family.
In both his landscape and still life paintings, Paul tries to demonstrate a delicate compositional balance of physical shape and negative space. He attempts to create compositions that develop through layers of brushwork, drawing and collage, as they move between abstract and representational marks. Pattern and collage are very important elements, as he tries to incorporate textures and mark making as prominent features.
Paul continues to be inspired by the shapes and textures within the landscape and still life compositions but only as a starting point; he looks for shapes both within the object but also in the negative space and allow the drawn mark or brush stroke to dictate.
