Sally Thomson, who paints under the pseudonym ‘SALT’, was born in Cornwall, though has lived overseas since the 90s, from as far as Bermuda to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has now settled on the Isle of Bute and mainland Scotland.

As a self taught artist, she aims to capture what can’t be caught by a camera lens. Her artistic vision is driven instead by her emotive response to the world around her and her passion for expressing what she feels using vibrant colours and bold loose brushwork. She is inspired by natural elements and personal visions, such as the powerful force of a stormy wind, a gentle breeze as it threads through the grasses, flashes of changing colour in the sea and sky, the joy at seeing someone you love smile, the smell of salt in your hair or a warm reminder of a place you love. Sally’s paintings represent 
the exhilaration of the moment, prompting the viewer’s gaze to engage in a conversation between the paint and what lies within
